Mr. Rainbowsaur, will you update your review? My updates are always about fixing bugs and adding new features. Starting with version 1.3.9, the extension no longer requires the "web navigation" permission (which Google describes as "see your browsing history"). It was only used to detect when you switch between videos — YouTube is a single-page app, so normal page-load events don't fire. I've since switched to an alternative approach that doesn't need the permission at all.

I was about to leave a 1/5 for it being need to access my browsing history, but I just saw the same question below and dev's response. I'm now relieved, and thanks to dev for detailedly explaining what's happening here. 5/5 thank you for your work!

SeekSubtitles does not have access to your browsing history. Chrome shows a "Read your browsing history" warning because the extension uses the webNavigation permission — but this is misleading. Here's what it actually does: YouTube is a Single Page Application, meaning when you click on a new video, the page doesn't fully reload — the URL just updates in place. The webNavigation permission lets the extension detect these in-page navigations so it can load the correct subtitles for the new video. This only works on youtube.com (you can actually see this in extension details under Site Access). The extension cannot read, search, or access your past browsing history. That would require a separate history permission, which SeekSubtitles does not use. Think of it as detecting when you switch videos in real time, not looking at where you've been. Edit: Starting with version 1.3.9, the extension no longer requires the "web navigation" permission (which Google describes as "see your browsing history"). It was only used to detect when you switch between videos. I've since switched to an alternative approach that doesn't need the permission at all.

Thanks for the feedback. The extension is not officially designed to support playback speeds like 3x, which can introduce edge case behavior depending on hardware and browser performance. For typical usage, it works reliably. If you're experiencing issues under normal conditions, feel free to share more details and I'll look into it. Edit: fixed.
