    Works perfectly for me. Wanted reddit and another site whitelisted for background tab opening. This does the trick.

    Doesn't work for URL changes in JavaScript - presumably those using the History API instead of window.location. Most modern websites nowadays are single page applications (SPAs). This means most links that one might wish to auto-open in a new tab change the URL using the History API, which avoids a full-page reload in the browser.
